Simply stated, this is a continuation of yesterday's post finishing out my Coney Island images with the Canon FTb and Rollei Retro 100 film. Be sure to check out Part 1 if you haven't already. Enjoy.

35mm Rollei Retro 100 - Canon FTb - Coney Island Part 1

You might remember back in May that I went to New York for a couple of days for some business meetings, and, that while I was there I got the chance to go to one of my favorite places - Coney Island. I've already posted a couple rounds of photos from that trip through Coney (here and here) but I think this round is actually my favorite. I don't like to post too many photos at the same time, so, I've decided to break this post into two days worth of photos.

All of today and tomorrow's photos come from my Canon FTb and a roll of 35mm Rollei Retro 100 that I picked up in New York at the Lomography store. Rollei is most definitely one of  my favorite 35mm black and white films that I've shot with to date and previously the Rollei Retro 400s 120 version of this film gave me some of my favorite medium format film images (the Trikes and Edgewater at Night). I'm now very tempted to buy some of Rollei's 4x5 sheet film to see how it compares.

Part 2.

Impossible Project PX100 - More of Coney Island

A few weeks back I started posting some images from my time spent in New York. I realized this morning that I actually have a few more images left to post that I'd nearly forgotten about, and, that doesn't include the rolls of film that I've yet to develop. 

Amongst the images that I have left are these shots from Coney Island. Previously I posted some images from this area that I shot with a Polaroid 250 and some expired Polaroid Polacolor 108. Today's photos, though, were shot with my Polaroid SX70 Sonar using one of my favorite Impossible Project films - PX100 Silver Shade. Unfortunately there aren't many images to share since I was trying to shoot with so many cameras at once, but, hopefully sometime in the near future I can get the rest of my film developed and get those images posted here as well.

Polaroid Polacolor Type 108 - Coney Island

Early last week I spent a couple days in the NYC and Brooklyn areas in order to go to a few meetings about a big event that I can't yet tell you about. As soon as I can I will, but, in the meantime, I'll just start sharing some of the photos that I took while I was out of town.


Today's three photos all come from one of my favorite places to visit - Coney Island. I'm not quite sure what it is about this place that I love so much, but I find it endlessly fascinating. I like to think there used to be places like this all over the US and this is just one of the few remnants of that time - It's the kind of Americana that I love. I do know that part of the intrigue of this place is based around the fact that my all-time favorite movie (Requiem for a Dream) took place and was heavily filmed in the Coney Island and Brighton Beach areas. 


There's really something wonderful about walking around a place that is so iconic, and, there's really no better example of how iconic it really is than the Cyclone. Now a nationally registered historic site the Cyclone is a wooden roller coaster that was built in 1927 and is still operational today. Originally part of Astroland, which closed in 2008 and was replaced in 2010 by Luna Park, the Cyclone is now owned entirely by the Parks Department and will remain operational independently thanks to it's status as a NYC landmark.

Another Coney Island landmark of the 1920's that is still operational today is the Wonder Wheel. The Wonder Wheel appears to be part of Luna Park, but, is actually Part of Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement park... it all gets quite confusing when you look into it...

These three photos were all taken with a Polaroid 250 using some expired Polaroid Polacolor type 108 that I've been hanging onto for a special occasion. I wasn't able to shoot an entire pack (time was limited and walking around with wet photos is a bit difficult) but I do think that this film is well suited for the location. I would love to go back to this area again sometime and take a few days just to shoot.
